About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Market Data Engineer with 7+ years of hands-on Java development experience to join BIP as a full-time consultant supporting the modernization of a Futures Algorithmic Trading platform. The role will focus on migrating market data integration from the deprecated LSEG/Refinitiv Robust Foundation API (RFA) to the Real-Time SDK (RTSDK), while preserving the functional behavior, performance, and reliability expected of an electronic trading platform.

The engineer will analyze how Futures and Options market data is consumed across the existing application, map RFA functionality and data fields to RTSDK equivalents, and implement the application and shared framework changes required for a controlled migration. The role requires a strong combination of market data expertise, hands-on software engineering, testing discipline, and knowledge of electronic trading workflows.

As a BIP consultant, you will work closely with client development, QA, and business stakeholders to deliver a phased, production-ready transition with backward compatibility, strong regression coverage, and minimal disruption to existing trading functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze and compare market data fields available in RFA and RTSDK across supported Futures and Options exchanges.
• Understand how the existing application consumes and utilizes market data from RFA and determine equivalent solutions using RTSDK.
• Identify and document differences between RFA and RTSDK and assess their impact on application behavior, trading workflows, and downstream processing.
• Design and implement Java application and shared framework library enhancements required to support RTSDK, including API integration, performance optimization, and production-ready code changes.
• Develop phased migration strategies that maintain backward compatibility during the transition from RFA to RTSDK.
• Validate that market data processing, volume counting, and trading-related functionality remain functionally consistent following the migration.
• Create and execute comprehensive testing strategies, including Test-Driven Development, automated testing, and regression testing, to ensure platform stability and accuracy.
• Assess and optimize application performance, scalability, and algorithmic efficiency across real-time market data workflows.
• Collaborate closely with development, QA, business, and trading stakeholders throughout analysis, implementation, testing, and rollout.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools and agents, where appropriate, to improve code analysis, development efficiency, code quality, and testing effectiveness.

Required Skills and Experience:

• 7+ years of professional Java software development experience, including hands-on development of production-grade enterprise, market data, or electronic trading applications.
• Proven experience working with Futures and Options market data from Refinitiv/LSEG and applying it within electronic trading systems.
• Strong understanding of market data concepts, exchange feeds, real-time data processing, and electronic trading workflows.
• Experience developing, maintaining, or enhancing production electronic trading applications.
• Ability to quickly navigate, understand, troubleshoot, and extend complex existing codebases and shared frameworks.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with a focus on application performance, scalability, reliability, and algorithmic efficiency.
• Experience planning and implementing phased platform or API migrations while maintaining backward compatibility.
• Hands-on experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, and regression testing practices.
• Experience working in Agile development environments and modern software engineering workflows.
• Familiarity with AI-powered development tools and agents for code analysis, development, testing, and productivity improvements.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced client environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience migrating applications from Refinitiv/LSEG RFA to RTSDK or completing a comparable market data platform modernization.
• Experience with low-latency trading systems and real-time market data processing.
• Exposure to framework/library design and shared platform development.
• Knowledge of Futures market structure, exchange connectivity, market data normalization, and exchange-specific data behavior.

**The base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $180,000, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.**
